Als het weer meewerkt, dan is er vandaag o.a. vanuit Nederland en België een gedeeltelijk zonsverduistering te zien. Rond 10:40 uur zal de zon voor bijna 85% worden verduisterd door de maan. Het wordt voor mij de vijfde (gedeeltelijke) zonsverduistering. Van mijn eerste gedeeltelijke zonsverduistering, die ergens in de 90-jaren plaatsvond, heb ik geen foto’s meer kunnen vinden.
Op 11 augustus 1999 zijn we voor een dag op en neer gereden naar Laon in Noordoost-Frankrijk. Met een beetje geluk zouden we daar een totale zonsverduistering mee kunnen maken, maar die dag zat het niet echt mee, omdat de zon vrijwel de hele ochtend schuil ging achter een dik wolkendek. Vlak na de totale verduisteringsfase begon de lucht op te breken (foto 1) …

If the weather cooperates, we can see a partial eclipse of the sun from the Netherlands, Belgium and other countries today. Around 10:40 a.m. the sun will be eclipsed by the moon for almost 85%. It will be the fifth (partial) solar eclipse for me. Of my first partial solar eclips, which took place somewhere in the years 90, I couldn’t find photos anymore.
On August 11, 1999, we drove up and down Laon in Norteast France. With a little luck we would be able to experience a total solar eclipse overthere. But we didn’t have that much luck, because the sun was hidden throughout the morning behind thck clouds. Shortly after the fase of the total eclipse the clouds began to break up. We could see the darkness and feel the lower temperatures, but we missed the beauty of the total eclips (photo 1) …

Op 31 mei 2003 was er vanuit Nederland ’s ochtends in alle vroegte een gedeeltelijk eclips te zien bij zonsopkomst. De maximale verduistering was 90%. Voor die gelegenheid ben ik midden in de nacht naar het Wad bij Paesens-Moddergat gereden. Het was sprookjesachtig mooi en ik heb er een uitgebreide fotoserie van kunnen maken (foto 2) …

On May 31, 2003, there was a partial eclipse visible from the Netherlands during sunrise. The maximum eclipse was 90%. For that occasion I drove to the north coast near Paesens-Moddergat. It was beautiful as a fairy tale and I could make an extensive series of photographs (photo 2) …

Op 3 oktober 2005 ben ik samen met Aafje naar De Veenhoop gereden om daar samen te kijken naar een gedeeltelijke zonsverduistering. Tijdens het hoogtepunt rond vijf minuten over elf ’s ochtends werd ongeveer 60% van de zon bedekt door de maan (foto 3) …

On October 3, 2005, I drove to a small village nearby with my wife Aafje to watch a partial solar eclipse together. During the peak around five minutes past eleven in the morning, approximately 60% of the sun was covered by the moon (photo 3) …

Die dag hadden we echt geluk, want we konden niet alleen de verduistering goed bekijken door de sluierbewolking, maar er verschenen ook nog eens een paar mooie bijzonnen in de lucht (foto 4)…

That day we were really lucky, because we couldn’t only see the eclips well through the veil clouds, but we saw a few nice sundogs as well (photo 4) …

Rond het middaguur, vlak nadat de zonsverduistering voorbij was, kwam deze donkere lucht op ons af (foto 5) …

Around noon, just after the eclipse was over, those dark clouds came our way (photo 5) …

Ik wens iedereen die morgen in de baan van de zonsverduistering zit een mooie helderblauwe lucht en veel plezier! En wees voorzichtig met je ogen, kijk alleen door een eclipsbril, een goed zonnefilter voor je camera, een goede lasbril of evt. door een goed stuk lasglas direct naar de zon. Anders zou het best eens je laatste zonsverduistering kunnen zijn, en dat zou toch zonde zijn!

I wish everyone who is in the path of the eclipse has a beautiful clear blue sky and lots of fun!
And be careful with your eyes. Only look directly at the sun through eclipse glasses, a solar filter for your camera, good welding goggles or possibly a good piece of welding glass. Otherwise this could well be the last solar eclipse you have seen, and that would be a shame!

Helaas, het is alsof de duvel ermee speelt: de hele week was het hier zonnig, maar uitgerekend vandaag was en bleef het bewolkt, zodat ik geen glimpje van de zonsverduistering heb gezien. Nadat ik eerder deze week het poollicht heb gemist, was dit het tweede hemelse gebeuren, dat de mist in ging … 😦

Unfortunately, it is as if the devil is playing with it: the whole week was sunny overhere, but today the sky remained very cloudy, so haven’t seen a glimpse of the eclipse of the sun. After I missed the Aurora Borealis earlier this week, this was the second celestial event I missed … 😦
